So I've had a fire going all weekend, which has been quite pleasurable. Got a good bit of paperwork done Friday, which has helped me stress a lot less. Been planning a summer vacation structured around my mom's wedding (June 28) and my cousin's graduation party/family vacation. It's good to dwell on warm times to come. Still not sure when I'll be moving out though. The plan is to move in with Dad/Grandma when the time comes. They have a lot of space and although it is a bit more driving to work, still def. more cost effective than an apartment and I like it out here.
I have to say that new "No Reservations" is the only thing between me and all out mutiny against television. I'm all for writers, but their strike is not just coming between me and The Office, but has delayed "Shantaram" (which may get shelved indefinitely anyway at this point.)This is unacceptable. Dry humor is a saving grace.

Friday
You know that point where you've been in a relationship and realize the person isn't nearly as interesting as you thought?
I'm at that point with myself right now.
Friday night with me, myself, and the TV. :)

Thursday night
So, I stayed late at work tonight doing paperwork. lots of fun. at least the majority of it is typed, which takes a lot less time. My notes would be a lot worse than they are if I had to handwrite them. Not to mention no one could read them.
Snowing tonight, yay!
Looking forward to The Office.

Jane Austin/Sunday night
So, it's about that time again. Mid-January, freezing cold, barely staying light til six. Apparently my clients seem to be enjoying it about as much as I do, as they all seem to be having problems right now.
And so begin the fantasies: New Mexico, Pondicherry, and right now, Jane Austin. Which is on PBS. And last night, I watched the very end of the first film version of Pride and Prejudice with my grandma in front of a crackling fire. I subsequently felt an extremely strong urge to watch the most recent version. Of course that fantasy involved a room full of friends and a certain little drinking game called "every time Darcy pines".
Which brought me to a memory. Walking out in the dark, crusted-over snow to get another log for the stove, I remembered the last time I was out in such calm conditions. Night sledding in the cow field...probably one of the best evenings of my life.
Which brings me to the present, alone in my house with the kitties. I have been quite shaken up this past couple weeks, and I'm not sure how I'm going to get all my work done. Working in this field has shown me how much of a direct impact our vote has on everyday life, particularly for the population I work with, who by and large is forgotten.
So vote democrat, bitches... if you value your conscience, place in heaven/hell, karma, etc. Republicans took our money away... not 'our' money, our client's money... increasing homelessness, ER visits, immeasurable pain and distress, increasing wait times for disability, (which once you're approved you still have to wait 2 years to get medicaid... "yeah, you can't work. But just because we know you can't get health insurance through a job, because you're disabled, we're going to hold out on you for a while... just to make sure. Too bad if your illness worsens. no coverage for you.") Seriously, this shit happens to real people. People die while they wait years for disability, living in homeless shelters. Anyway, rant over.
I started pottery class, and that was good. It's mid-life-crisis class for women. Seriously, a 40-something festival. If nothing else, I hope to gain some insight as to the nature of my future existential suffering as a suburban soccer mom with 12 kids who's names start with "K". I could seriously swear if I actually name my hopefully-not-future-kid with a K name I hope someone pokes or slaps me or something, and makes me get it legally changed. Not that K names are bad but it would like be starting to fulfill the prophecy of 14 kids and I don't think I can handle even that possibility.
I am wondering also what everyone else is up to. I may yet send out a life update for everyone via email. Not like there is much of anything going on that is n't in here.
Mom is planning on selling the house though, so I will probably have to move this summer. That's news, I guess. Also I have been bad with my money, considering I don't have rent really. I think I'm getting paid so much for relatively little strain that I don't value it as much. Like, when I quantify how much time something is worth (ie, that 15$ CD is worth just over an hour) it doesn't seem so bad. Whereas if I were waitressing it would be like "no effing way that's worth an hour of work!" so my previous method of curbing spending is not really working anymore. I am also just making more of it, so no matter what I do my account balance keeps going up. Which, I mean, I'm not complaining.
Sigh, anyway. too late for writing now. I hope you've all got a good start on the new year and that I see you soon.
Love,
Meredith
